It was reported today in the UK Times that Amway has been spared from extermination in the UK. The entire UK Times article can be viewed here. In large part Amway appears to have been spared because of some of its "radical" modifications it has initiated since the UK lock down on its business. I am sure Amway will shamefully claim this to be one of their finest victories. The reality of this decision is Governments , Judges, and regulatory agencies have an ultimate goal of compliance with the law. Apparently Justice Norris felt the changes initiated by Amway as well as the punishment they have endured of not operating for nearly a year to be sufficient. In other words, Amway was spared due to their "radical" changes and were sentenced to time served.
One of the "radical" changes made by Amway was their drastic price reductions. Amway has yet to adopt these reductions in North America. In an article written by Chris Knappe he lists the four changes promised in the UK and goes on to quote Steve Van Andel:
- Eliminating fees to become a distributor;
- Taking control of sales and distribution of motivational materials and events;
- Agreeing to publish average distributor earnings in England;
- Offering orientation classes to give a better idea how much new distributors can expect to make and how long it might take to earn at a given level.
Van Andel stopped short of saying Alticor will implement all the practices in all its markets. "As we go along and do business around the world, we try to go along and learn what we think are the best practices," he said. "As we learn those best practices, we'll bring them to other countries."In other words we will continue charging excessive prices as long as we can. Mr. Van Andel doesn't sound to be endorsing any of these changes as good ideas.
Of course no report of Amway would be complete without the usual blaming of IBOs. In a statement issued by Devos and Van Andel, they seem to dismiss their own faults and again focus on blaming the IBO as the cause of their problems.
"Even though he dismissed all three claims against us, the judge also had harsh words for Amway. He was not pleased with the way some IBO organizations had misrepresented the opportunity in the UK, and held us responsible for failing to enforce our rules."
Wouldn't this make you want to do business with these guys? What, no mention of your pricing and horrible opportunity?
The UK Times article also pointed out Amway's dismal financial performance:
It appears Amway's ability to survive is dependent on new markets where their history of being what some call an inferior business model is unknown. One has to ask how much of Amway's success in Asia is driven not by being a good business model and more by the insatiable desire of Asian consumers to buy and own American goods. After all even Buick's are a hot commodity in China. However, the High Court heard that in Britain the company had faced "serious and sustained financial difficulties" in recent years. Between October 2000 and December 2005 it made an annual average losses of £2.9million. The firm was dependent on the support of its European parent company which in turn derived most of its income from its shareholder in Amway Korea, the court was told.
In recent years, Amway has expanded rapidly in Asia and the Far East, especially in China, Japan and Thailand. The region now accounts for an estimated 80 per cent of its business.
It is good to see Amway UK changing. It was more than obvious that something had to change given the shamefully anemic results or lack there of for UK IBO's.
The High Court heard that between 2001 and 2006 the number of British agents not earning any bonus income at all varied between 69 per cent and 78 per cent. In 2004/5 only 74 agents out of 25,342 earned more than £10,000 in bonuses. Finally, Amway has agreed to greater transparency. Income disclosure has never been a strong suit for the company. The refreshing nature by which companies such as Monavie handles income disclosure should embarrass Amway. Compare for yourself what prospective business owners can examine (Amway SA-4400, Monavie Income Disclosure Statement; Monavie Compensation Plan). As much as Amway may claim victory they may have just agreed to their own demise. Amway UK was unable to make profits during a time when very few IBOs were making any money and prices were extraordinarily high. One struggles to imagine how they will succeed with reduced prices and while holding orientations to explain how miserable their opportunity really is. Unless of course the family was just over milking the cow. The orientations, along with the publishing of incomes in the UK, will do nothing to perpetuate their business. It may come to pass that though the judge has spared Amway UK an immediate death he may have sentenced them to a slow painful one instead.

Yahoo, I'm the 1st blogger!
Bob, you can't just be the 1st blogger. You have to add something to the item you are blogging about. You need to write something, make a comment, start it off by asking a question or making a point.
Oh, I didn't know.
Ok, I have no comment at this me.
You mean:
I have no comment at this time.
would amway=go away be a comment???
i hear that there are bumper stickers with that on them.
We have some truly ingenious commenting going on here. LMAO. Anyway, IBO Rebellion: Good Post. I guess that Amway has "wound up" the indedpendent tool business in the UK to keep the magistrates from doing it for them. Could this be in the cards here in the States? They've basically knocked TEAM out of the box. Is World Wide Dream Builders next? What about BWW? Could the writing be on the wall?
Sounds like the only opportunity left in Quix-Czar is to be taken to the cleaners and left out on a floating ice flow for the polar bears.
Well, most of their volume {72%}is done in India, and Asia.So why wouldnt you do,say 20% less volume and have 80% less headache. You all are Ludacrious if you think Amway is going under. They are going somewhere, just somewhere without you.--------And India, and Asia, are doing it without the rah,rah.----Imagine,treating a buisness model like a buisness, rather than an ARMY FOR GOD.-----Please take a breath before responding.
I am not taking a breath before I respond because I might accidentally inhale some of what you are smoking.
"army for God." - so the truth comes out. You are not anti-team, just anti-God. So why hang out at this site and not just stay in the safe confines of moveon.org?
My2sense, you probably walk like you talk. All those little dashes you have at the end of your sentences are probable the stairs you fell down.
Since there were no spaces between the dashes he probably hit every stair on the way down.
Why would he do that?
So he could make sure that every stair was there!
BOB,and TODD,----------you are the perfect example of the level of intellegence, and social inept,of all team members.Thank you so much for sharing.Your statements alone make many, many points.
my2sense,
Your statements, which generalize the level of intelligence of an entire group of individuals numbering in the thousands based upon the blog entries of 2 individuals, speak volumes about you as well. Thanks for sharing.
nicely played.
Well, well. It seems that the lawsuit from Celadrin was dismissed. And now there is a possible business relationship in the future with these two companies. So this is what happens when two mature adults meet and come to an understanding? No drama, no blood spilled or lives hurt? That's weird.
Amway should take notes.
What are you talking 'bout? What is Team?
Did you pick My2sense due to the fact that when you googled your own name the definition read, Dufus?
My2sense, bring it on big boy.
I heard when your car was hit by a hailstone you huffed and puffed into the tailpipe to blow out the dent.
Yea My2sense, I heard you were so fat that when you put on a red dress, the neighbor hood kids would yell: “Kool-aid”
My2sense, I heard you were so fat that when you fell down and picked yourself backup, you rocked yourself to sleep.
hey hey hey guys, settle down, let's not stoop to the level of someone who makes personal attacks on people. This is about real issues with a humorous spin. Let's not turn it into some totally non credible blog where people just sling mud at each other and call it fun....
Ben, you are right. We refuse to pick on a defenseless person like My2sense (AKA - Dufus.)He was so predictable, we had the whole script already written. We had his response almost to the Tee after we did the stairs. We set the ball in motion and he still stepped in front of it. LOL
Again, you are right, so we are leaving your site to pick on another Blogger at another site.
Thank you for the hospitalty and the history we had fun. Don't either side think of recruiting us as we just finished our sophmore year of college. Whew!

On May 15, 2008, Mona Vie, LLC, a Utah based multi-level marketing
supplier of wellness products and the Registrant entered into the
following agreements:
• Purchase and Supply Agreement, and
• Settlement Agreement and General Release of Claims.
As a result of the above agreements, on May 16, 2008, the Registrant dismissed with prejudice a lawsuit it had filed on May 5, 2008 against
Mona Vie.
I am glad Monavie decided to settle. I also agree than Quixtar should settle it's lawsuits.
Take in to account, the FTC has stated that contracts between Quixtar and IBOs should be evaluated by state courts, not federal courts, as it is likely that Quixtar's change of rules may violate state laws, but do not violate federal laws.
WOW!!!

good luck in college, make sure you get into a field of study that revolves around the three trends, either Internet, Distribution, or Franchising. That's where the money's at.
You know it's kinda cool, one of my teammates realized that the three trends shown in the plan were true and decided to go to school for a job in the distribution circle and I encouraged him, he is now a truck driver and makes great money in that field, he told me that if he hadn't been in TEAM he would have never thought of it. I am proud to have had a positive influence in his life.
Your an idiot.

An avenue of discussion is now limited to just this last comment area, shame since I believe there are a few ends to tie up.
Ben, if you are still reading this blog I have a couple of questions regarding Team that I am curious about. In addition, is there a blog out on the team site (web site) where Team members still communcate who are not part of team? If not we can communicate via this last comment post.
Thank you
vru,
Ask away my friend. I usually check this post every couple of days or so.
I don't know of any other site where current or X team members communicate xcept for orrins leadership blog. If you want to know about what is happening with team, he usually updates his blog daily at orrinwoodward.blogharbor.com.
Hey Ben:
Sorry took so long to respond, I just found out a few of my friends are on The Team. I wanted to find out more about this whole situation. There are some questions they could not answer so I was hoping you could fill in the blanks:
You had mentioned earlier about Team and Team Legacy and a few others. What I have been told there was only about 30K that left Amway. After reading the blogs, I am starting to wonder if there are more them 30K. Like a lot more, maybe even close to a 100K left. If that is true, then this is bigger then I thought and they knew?
1) Do you have an idea if it is more then 50K? Higher? Lower?
Another thing, some Team Members are on the fence, as you have said and have heard nothing except of the 2 products currently, Leadership and Mona Vie. They are anxious to find what is next but so far nothing. I believe that could be a challenge in itself. They told me a couple of times they were told an announcement would take place, but so far nothing. Talk about a High and Low, Now July is the month… I hope they hear something soon. I am not sure how many more ups and downs my friends can take; my concerns are for my friends. I don’t take sides because this is something they believe in.
2) Have you ever read Success Magazine? There is a supplement to this magazine that goes out once a month describing business opportunities, Quixtar, Mona Vie, World Ventures to name a few.
3) The last item is the PDCA. I wanted to know more regarding their understanding of PDCA. “P” Planning is not a single thought but a 6 to 7 step process. It worries me that they never heard of this. Questions like, What is the Topic? What is Happening Today, What is the Status? Time / Materials? Solution? How do I know? Then there is the “D”, “C” and “A” portions, which are almost just as involved. There idea of the “A” portion is really “D” & “C”, you can’t get to “A” unless you know that the Plan is working. I don’t understand how they have improved their home and work life? There are just too many variables, so many things that are unpredictable. (IE, mood swings, stress, not feeling well, etc. How do you account for all this?) I know over time they will learn. What are your thoughts on this?
Thank you,
VRU.
what's up friend? I thought you might have found another source or something but I am glad to hear from you.
Well first off, the 30.000 you speak of consists of the leaders on the team who believe in the long term vision of the TEAM, which is a million Plus people goal. The 100,000 people you refer to is the total number of people involved with team. So we have 70,000 who are either on the fence, or still waiting their 6 months out, because they either waited to see what happened or didn't care enough to send in their resignations, and are waiting until their contracts expire. Right now we are going head on with mona vie, who's leadership also has the same goal as us. They have one of the best health and wellness products out there and have an awesome pay plan that reward distributors for building depth so you can focus your time in fewer places. As far as any other products, time will tell what the leadership of monavie and team will come up with as soon as we get our numbers where they need to be in order to have substantial market share. In the mean time though we will build this business as fast as we can to prove to our potential suppliers that we have the ability to grow that market share.
2 I recently bought 10 issues of success magazine with the dvd to use as tools to promote the product and the business. I don't want to find out about other businesses so much because even before I found out about the noncompete clause. I realized that trying to promote more than one business is very complicated, and makes you look wishy washy,
3 first you need a goal, then...
P plan. plan your course of action
D do. implement that plan
C check. see what results you get
A adjust. change plan if you are getting poor results
think long term.
ttfn.
